Starting Up at The Studios – Week 12 -FINAL!

It the final episode of the weekly SeaMedia series, Starting Up at The Studios! Walk down memory lane with the Howest NMCT startups, Claimd and Mirror Mate, who have now graduated from Howest and are off to new adventures.

Eugenie Brun, who made the series and who has been an intern at SeaMedia at The Studios for the last 5 months is returning to France. The SeaMedia team of Sarah, Muriel and Dulce are also all off to new adventures! Sarah will be the international relations coordinator for Howest campus Kortrijk. Dulce is moving to Amsterdam. Muriel is on a sunny island taking a break before planning her video future.

And this is the last SeaMedia video!

The big news is that The Studios was robbed the night of 24 June 2015 and the thieves got away with tons of SeaMedia video equipment. It’s a really sad way for the project to end but we won’t let it ruin the fabulous last 3.5 years we’ve had! Please check out this link to see information about the equipment that was stolen. If you see anything like it, please let us know or notify the Kortrijk police. You can see the serial numbers in photos below of the stolen goods.

The Studios and SeaMedia wish you a fantastic summer! We can’t wait to see who uses this space next and which startups and projects end up here in the near future!

And don’t forget Howest Info Day!

Starting Up at The Studios Week 9, 10 & 11 Plus News!

It’s been so busy at The Studios these days that we’ve fallen behind on posting news here! Our apologies for that!

First, let’s catch up with our Starting Up at The Studios series! You can watch all episodes here!

Watch episode 9 via this link!

Watch episode 10 via this link!

Watch episode 11 via this link!

Today Claimd were in the news because nobody can use the name “Freecycling” anymore thanks to a lawsuit over the name in The States. Claimd saw a big rise in users and reached out to freecycling sites to see if they could help them by offering their platform. Lots of Facebook groups with new names popped up, so the change of name won’t change the drive to give away things you don’t need anymore. Check out this article via this link!

Other big news is that the SeaMedia Howest project is really, truly, officially and unofficially done now! We had a great goodbye party for SeaMedia’s Muriel and Dulce. We wish them great, exciting new adventures and happy trails! Speaking of Happy Trails, you can hear their goodbye show via this link, also featuring former and current SeaMedia interns, Marta and Eugenie!

Other big news is that SeaMedia’s former intern Marta Scocco was back at The Studios and in Belgium to work on another video but also to set up screenings of the documentary she made here in the fall called Italians in Belgium. Check out the teaser here and stay tuned for more screenings. We already had some in Genk, Brussels and Kortrijk! On 12 June, after the goodbye drink, we had a screening of the documentary at The Studios, followed by a great Italian dinner and a warm and joyous atmosphere full of new and old faces from The Studios! Check out all the photos here!

Stay tuned for the last episode of Starting Up at The Studios – coming soon! The guys from Mirror Mate and Claimd do their final presentations for NMCT at Howest on Wednesday 17/06. We’re crossing our fingers for them!

In the meantime, have some zen with our pet sheep! The field next to The Studios was once home to bunnies. Now, we have these great sheep!

Starting Up at The Studios week 8

Check out episode 8 of the weekly series, Starting Up at The Studios via this link!

In this episode, you see Claimd and Mirror Mate busy, busy, busy, with some members doing presentations in San Fran in The States and going through the local stage of the Vlajo SBP contest. There’s been prototype making, backend coding, frontend development – you name it and they are busy with it! Here’s a selection of photos from that week!

These lucky guys recently went to San Fran with Howest goes USA! They got to visit a lot of important companies and see some great tourist spots!
And they got to present their startup ideas in San Fran and get feedback from important and experienced players!
Back in Belgium, Mirror Mate worked hard on thinking about its prototype in preparation for the Vlajo SBP awards.

Claimd kept on coding the backend and designing the frontend of its freecycling platform.
And The Studios had a visit from Maarten Lermytte from RedBeaver Media, a former Howest NMCT startup from The Studios. Maarten and his colleagues were busy launching a contest and getting likes for their Talentdepo app! Maarten was also checking in on Claimd and Mirror Mate and giving them advice for the Vlajo contest.

And then it was time for the West Flemish round of the Vlajo SBP selections, which both Claimd and Mirror Mate were part of!
And the winners were….

A big congrats to both startups for getting as far as they did! Between then and today, a lot more has happened – so make sure to check out Starting Up at The Studios episode 9. You can already do so via this link!

Hard werken @The Studios

We wensen hen alvast veel succes!

RedBeaver Media begon in februari in The Studios.
